About the wine grape variety, Albariño:
Albariño is a dry white wine produced from a white grape variety that is best known in the Iberian Peninsula countries of Spain and Portugal. Albariño is typically found in the Rias Baixas area of Galicia in Northwestern Spain and known as Alvarinho in Portugal. It is thick-skinned and small-berried with aromatics similar to a Riesling. Albariño is thought to originate from Germany. There are over 30,000 acres of Albariño in Spain, over 14,000 acres in Portugal. Its popularity in California is on the rise with grapes being planted in Lodi, Napa, Sonoma and the Central Coast with over 400 acres. The first known California planting was in 1992 and it’s been growing in Lodi since 1999. This white wine grape generally produces a light colored, aromatic and high acid light to medium bodied wine that often exhibits citrus and stone fruit flavors with a salty finish. It appeals to traditional red wine drinkers due to the complexity in aromatics and texture. Albariño pairs well with fresh seafood, shellfish and light cheeses such as Fresh Burrata and semi-hard cheeses such as Manchego.

Visit Estate Crush in downtown Lodi to taste our award-winning stainless steel produced Albariño! It’s crisp and dry with lovely citrus, melon and honeysuckle flavors.
